Workers' Compensation

You take the risk. We take the call.

You climb the scaffold. You weld the seam. You dock the tender in weather. You work the crane. And when something goes wrong — as it eventually does in a maritime yard, on a working deck, or over navigable water — the last thing you need is a call centre asking for your policy number. That's why we do this differently. Every claim under our care is handled by a real person, in-house, who knows your name before they know your case. Because you're the reason the boat moves. Not the paperwork.

THE COVERAGE

Real cover for real work.

01

If you work a shipyard or port

Welder, rigger, crane operator, painter, engineer, contractor. When something happens on site — a burn, a fall, a crush injury, a long-term issue like hearing loss or back damage — you're covered for treatment, wages while you heal, and long-term rehabilitation. No fight, no delay. Full stop.

Recovery story: Welder in a Mediterranean yard suffered severe arc-flash burns during a night shift. Airlifted to burn unit within 90 minutes. Wages paid from day one. Physical therapy through recovery. Back on the yard floor at week 14.
02

If you work at sea (Marine Employers Liability)

Crew on offshore vessels, ferries, charter yachts — under the Jones Act and general maritime law, your protections are different from a standard shore comp claim. That's federal territory. We know it and we've walked it hundreds of times. When you get hurt at sea, we don't outsource the call.

Recovery story: Deckhand injured during storm-force weather off Nantucket. Jones Act protections engaged same day. Full maintenance and cure obligations honoured. No pressure to return before medically cleared.
03

If you work over water (USL&H)

Longshore worker, harbour construction, ship repairer, marine contractor — the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act was written specifically because state comp doesn't cover the ways this work actually goes wrong. Broader benefits, federal claim, real legal weight behind you. We do this every day.

Recovery story: Marine contractor fell on a wet gantry during a superyacht refit. USL&H benefits initiated within 24 hours. Federal court counsel already retained. Rehabilitated, retrained, back working.
04

If you work across borders

Turkish captain on a Cayman-flagged yacht injured in Antigua. Filipino deckhand transiting a Med charter through Gibraltar. Your programme has to hold across every jurisdiction — not fall apart at the state line. That's the whole point of doing this properly.

Recovery story: Turkish captain injured on a Med charter, hospitalised in Antibes, then repatriated to Istanbul for continued care. Cover held across three jurisdictions without a single break in treatment.

THE PROMISE

When you call, a real person picks up.

Most workers' comp claims get routed to call centres reading from scripts. Ours don't. When you're injured on the job, we don't want you talking to a system. We want you talking to a person who knows the difference between a Longshore claim and a state claim, who has actually stood on a dry dock, and who calls the doctor for you when it's after hours. Your name matters to us. So does your recovery.

A standard workers' comp claim
  • Your first call is a call centre
  • Different claims handler every time you check in
  • Your file gets passed between administrators
  • You do the paperwork on your own
  • You fight for treatment authorisation
Under SRMG's programme
  • Your first call is a real person who knows maritime work
  • Same claims handler through the whole recovery
  • One name, one number, one advocate
  • We handle the paperwork so you can focus on healing
  • We call the doctor for you — you focus on getting better

RECOVERY STORY

Fourteen weeks. One handler. Zero calls to a call centre.

When a welder in a Mediterranean refit yard suffered severe arc-flash burns during a Sunday night shift, the first call his shift lead made was to our claims line. A senior advocate picked up in six minutes. Wages started paying the following morning. His treatment was coordinated with the burn unit directly by our medical liaison — not routed through three administrators and a form. He was rehabilitated through weeks 4 to 12, cleared for light duties in week 14, and back on the yard floor doing what he loves in week 16.

  • Same claims handler from day one through return-to-work
  • Direct medical coordination — no PPO obstruction
  • Full wages, full treatment, full advocacy
  • No litigation. No adversarial position taken against him.

Result: The welder is still working the same yard, on the same team, four years later.

Somebody called me back. That was the first thing. Somebody actually called me back within the hour, and stayed on my file the whole way through. In fifteen years working shipyards I'd never had that. So I keep telling the newer guys — read your policy, and if it's not SRMG, ask why.

SRMG

Why SRMG.

  • A real person answers every time. Never a script, never a queue, never "your call is important to us".

  • We coordinate directly with your doctors so you're treated fast, not put on hold.
  • Federal court experience across USL&H, Jones Act, general maritime law — we know exactly what your claim is worth and how to protect it.
  • Independent broker, independent claims team — we don't work for the carrier. We work for the people the carrier is supposed to protect.

If you've been hurt, we're here.

Frequently asked

Maritime workers' comp questions

USL&H (United States Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act) is federally mandated coverage for maritime workers not covered by the Jones Act — dock workers, ship repairers, shipyard employees, marina staff. Standard state workers' comp does not satisfy USL&H requirements. SRMG places USL&H through markets that specifically underwrite maritime employer exposure — a wrong-market placement can result in a coverage denial at claim under the concurrent-jurisdiction rules.
